Please, talk me out of this. My new job and move has opened up some doors for me. My Mirage is staying, as is my Talon. My Mirage has earned its’ place and been a best friend over this last year. It’s also about to be paid off.

That means it’s time to make more debt. I’ve discussed buying much on here; but one vehicle never leaves my mind. That vehicle is the Durango SRT. Some of you may remember that at almost this exact time last year I had a Durango RT rental for a few days and fell in love with it. I’d written a nice article about it and initially thought I’d hate it. However, it’s been one vehicle I haven’t been able to shake.

I made the mistake of driving a gorgeous white SRT a few days back. It was like feeding a stray, and it’s not going to go away.

Anyone else think I’m insane, or are there fellow Durango lovers like myself in these parts?

I absolutely love my Durango. I bought it knowing it was most definitely not the right choice but the heart wants what it wants. I have the pentastar version which is fully 100% adequate. It won’t knock your socks off but it won’t make you yell “come on come on come on!”

Bought it February 2018 with 45k. Now has 67k.

I think you’re insane. Because FCA build quality, or lack thereof. At the used car dealership I work at, FCA vehicles seem to age twice as quickly as anything else we get in. They also have weird repairs that don’t come up on other vehicles, often taking a lot more time to repair than other makes.

That being said, it could be worse. If you were looking at a Chevy Traverse or any of it’s badge-engineered hellspawn, I’d whip you with the completely worn-out timing chain (at 84k miles!) I had to replace in the last one the dealership got.

I don’t do GM stuff usually. The newer FCA stuff I know personally has been great

How much of those issues can be attributed to the people who own them not taking care of them?

They likely age twice as fast because the general buyer of them barely maintains them.......

I mean you’re correct in your assumption that FCA will finance a car to anyone with a credit score at or above room temperature, and those people generally just piss-pound miles on the car and do barely enough maintenance to keep it going. But also the interiors generally feel to be not as high of quality as the competition, and more prone to rattling because there’s less screws/bolts and more snap-fit with clips.

I feel when compared with their competitors, their interiors feel just as nice, if not nicer in many cases.

2017 Camaro:

Either car gives you a sea of bland plastic. GM tries to spice it up with cheap aluminum accents ( Many of which we made the heat staking fixtures for ) and cheap-looking red leather.

Dodge gives the the same aluminum accents, but keeps them subtler. Their screens and controls are all nicely integrated instead of a screen that looks like an afterthought. Their seats look like expensive hand stitched leather.

We’re going to have to disagree here.

IMO all new car interiors are junk regardless of brand, so you’re talking to the wrong person about interiors anyway, but actually go look at Dodges of the last 4-5yrs, their interiors are not what they were in the 2000s anymore .
